Rookie Ski Instructor Program

Applications for 2026/27 will open soon - in Spring 2026.

The Rookie program is predominantly aimed at skiers, as we generally require more ski instructors than snowboard instructors each season. However, we do occasionally also offer snowboarding spots.

Are you a strong skier with a passion for the mountains—but no formal teaching certification yet? Mt Seymour’s Rookie Ski Instructor Program is your pathway to becoming a certified instructor and joining our full-time Snow School team.

What’s the Program About?

We hire skilled, enthusiastic riders who want to work full-time but don’t yet hold a CSIA (ski) or CASI (snowboard) Level 1 certification. Mt Seymour will cover 100% of the cost of your Level 1 course—valued at more than $550.

Courses are offered in December or early season, so you’ll be ready to hit the ground running.

How It Works

Once accepted into the program, you’ll begin working at the start of the season in an Apprentice Instructor role. You must be available full-time to qualify.

  • Mt Seymour pays for your certification course.
  • After successfully completing the course, you’ll transition into a full-time instructor role.
  • Due to the value of the training, no additional bonus payments are offered for Rookie participants.
  • If you don’t pass the certification, we’ll do our best to place you in another department—if available. If not, employment won’t proceed.

Anyone who participated in the Apprentice Program in 2024/25 or later is also eligible for a Level 1 exam refund if they return full-time.

Note: Prior to the 2024/25 season, the Apprentice Program included the exam cost, which Mt Seymour covered at the time.

Prerequisites

To be eligible for the Rookie Instructor Program, applicants must:

  • Be a strong intermediate or advanced skier. The L1 exam requires you to ski on blue terrain and maintain speed control. For more info on the requirements, check out CSIA L1.
  • Be available to work full-time for the duration of the winter season. (December 9th 2026 - March 29th 2027)
  • Be enthusiastic, reliable, and ready to learn.
  • Have excellent communication and people skills
  • Be legally eligible to work and live in Canada
  • Be able to commit to the Level 1 certification course in December or early season.
