Join us for our open house on June 11, 4:30pm-7:30pm, Parkgate Community Centre.
We’re excited about the future and sharing our 60-year master plan with you.
Every project that is approved in the master plan is subject to further individual assessments and review processes when they are pursued. Project-specific environmental impact assessments, which include review of archaeological surveys, hydrology reports, old-growth forest, and identified sensitive habitats, will all play an essential role in project decision-making. Working closely with BC Parks, we will strike an important balance between conservation and recreation.
THE BIG IDEA
We’re creating more space – on the mountain, in the lodges, and around the base area to improve your experience.
Mt Seymour has been Vancouver’s starting gate to outdoor recreation since 1936. The last 90 years have brought a lot of change, and we’ve evolved as Vancouver has grown, seeking innovative solutions to grow within our existing boundaries. The introduction of our peak-period time slots reduced lift lines, road delays, and eliminated kilometers of idling vehicles entering the Provincial Park. Our shuttle bus service helps those without a vehicle visit the park, taking vehicles off the road, and providing our staff with free transport to and from work.
We want to create a sustainable destination where we can all escape the city, reconnect with nature, and feed our minds and bodies.
Our 60-year plan will see Mt Seymour Resorts gradually add more family-friendly intermediate ski terrain and chairlifts, an expanded learning area, revitalized lodge, rentals, and guest service facilities, allowing us to breathe a little easier and enjoy the space and adventures we all want.
Summer
For many of our current guests, we are their first experience of a winter mountain environment. We keep them safe, we educate, and we enable fun!
Mt Seymour is adapting to Vancouver’s ever-changing population and climate. That means not only expanding our facilities and skiable terrain, but also becoming a year-round destination, offering engaging recreation experiences regardless of the weather or the season. We’ve introduced thousands of children to the great outdoors through our Eco-Adventure Camps, and we’re building on our expertise to offer all our guests and park users summer experiences that are safe, fun, enriching, and accessible.
We want to diversify into summer to be resilient to the future.
- Extensive network of hiking trails
- Beginner Mountain Bike Zone
- Disc Golf
- Glamping
- 25 Cabins
- Aerial Adventure Park and Ziplines
- Via Ferrata
- De Pencier Skywalk
WINTER
We love winter and you do too. From the snowy silence of snowshoeing in old-growth glades to the frigid air burning your cheeks as you carve down the mountain. Being outdoors is a reset and vital for us all to thrive in an urban environment.
We have the potential to expand our winter operation with excellent higher elevation intermediate terrain, mountaintop food and beverage with 360 world-class views, and a little more space for us all to breathe. We already carefully control our capacity to avoid overcrowding, but we all need more space.
We’ve split our winter growth into four phases with the first planned to begin within the next five years.
- Surface lifts & Chairlifts: 4 → 14
- Ski Trails: 41 → 90
- Skiable Terrain (Hectares): 42 → 147
- Expanded Snowmaking
BACKCOUNTRY ACCESS AND SHARED SPACE
Did you know that the first Mystery Peak Chairlift was built to take skiers back and forth between the parking lot and the backcountry? The majority of the existing ski runs didn’t exist, they came later.
We want to continue Mt Seymour Resorts’ history of being a staging area for all park users. With an improved access trail, dedicated return trail, and publicly accessible warming huts, there is an opportunity to work together so that we can all enjoy nature, safely and comfortably.
Improving Resort Touring access.
Many winter park users use park trails to travel uphill, and resort ski runs to descend. This hybrid activity, known as Resort Touring, is different from backcountry skiing and has grown significantly in popularity. We want to work with resort touring park users to identify a designated ski run descent, improving the experience for everyone.
FACILITIES
Our base area is in much need of expansion and is inadequate to meet the current needs of Mt Seymour Resorts guests and park visitors. With the diversification into summer and the expansion of our winter terrain, we will need modern, comfortable, high-capacity spaces.
- Mystery Peak Lodge (Restaurant) – Top of the Mystery Peak Express with a modest indoor space and accompanying patio, and a full-service kitchen.
- Peak Warming Hut – Top of the De Pencier Chair, with a small footprint offering coffee, tea, soup, sandwiches, and baked goods.
- De Pencier Warming Hut - Bottom of De Pencier Chair, offering a warm space to recoup and eat lunch with friends.
- The Alpine Activity Centre - Doubled in size to become the hub of ski school and ski rentals.
- The Ridge Chair Cabin - Hosting a small café for parents with kids in lessons at the relocated Bear Bowl (Beginner Area).
- Increasing parking stalls from 820 to 1,347.
THE NEXT 60 YEARS
We want to embrace new opportunities, and with a changing climate, we need to become a year-round resort that caters to the needs of the Lower Mainland.
This 60-year plan lays out the future opportunities and improvements at Mt Seymour Resorts, especially in summer. It identifies projects, activities, and experiences that best fit the mountain, our guests, and future demand, preserving options that can be further examined and developed in the future.
