Mt Seymour is looking for two organized, motivated leaders to join our team and share their passion for skiing with our guests. Our Assistant Supervisors help lead our teams to create 'Wow experiences' on the mountain.

Mt Seymour is located in North Vancouver, just 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver and is known as Vancouver's place to learn to ski and ride. Our Snow School provides a fun and inclusive atmosphere in which to work. Leaders are responsible for providing a great working environment for our frontline staff by creating an organized and efficient environment for them, so that they can deliver great experiences to our guests.

These are extended seasonal full-time positions (30-40 hours per week), and 4-6 days a week (extra work during peak operating periods). Specific Roles for 25/26:

  • 1 x Daily Lessons Assistant Evenings Supervisor (Group & Private Lessons)
  • 1 x Schools Programs Assistant Supervisor (Schools & Groups Lesson Programs)

Summary Of Responsibilities:

Snow School Assistant Supervisors assist in overseeing the delivery of all Snow School lessons at Mt Seymour. This includes private lessons, daily group lessons, multi-week camps, school groups, and all other lessons as required. Assistant Supervisors will primarily focus on one lesson product and work with one lesson Supervisor to oversee that product. The ideal candidate will strive to deliver the best lesson product offerings and be accountable for their success. Working closely with the Snow School Leadership Team, the assistant supervisors ensure lessons' smooth and effective delivery by supporting the instructing staff.
 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Snow School Schedule & Admin Coordinator, Manager, and Assistant Manager to track the number of lessons booked and adjust capacities accordingly.
  • Utilize reports and registration information to proactively prepare for group and private lessons, including pre-assigning lessons and creating class lists using flaik. Or other systems.
  • Schedule lessons and assign appropriate instructors using flaik (our scheduling software), considering guest abilities and lesson types.
  • Collaborate with Guest Experience / Our Schools & Groups Team to fulfill guest requests and communicate any unfulfilled requests.
  • Assist in organizing and leading training for staff.
  • Set up and tear down lesson meeting areas (or delegate to instructors).
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings with instructors before lessons, ensuring all necessary information is communicated.
  • Take attendance and report any missing or late instructors, coordinating with colleagues to locate/contact them if necessary.
  • Ensure all necessary information, including health and safety messages, lesson timings, announcements, and reminders, is communicated to staff.
  • Prepare class lists and pre-assign lessons in advance, assigning specific tasks to appropriate instructors.
  • Be present at the meeting points before lessons start, ensuring classes start on time and students are gathered in an organized manner.
  • Assist staff in checking in guests and assessing their skill levels.
  • Coordinate verbal class splits with instructors, monitoring progress and ensuring timely completion of lessons.
  • Observe groups on the slopes and provide assistance when needed.
  • Conduct instructor observations and provide feedback.
  • Handle administrative duties, future scheduling, and performance reviews during non-teaching hours.
  • Be present at the meeting points before the scheduled end of lessons, monitoring progress and talking to guests about their experience.
  • Address any guest or parent inquiries or issues that arise.
  • Collect and organize class cards and coordinator folders after each lesson.
  • Update schedules and make necessary changes, including adding additional instructors or noting class size issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of student and instructor hours worked.
  • Adapt to changing weather, staffing, and student conditions to ensure all guests' safety and active participation.
  • Teach a variety of lessons according to CSIA and CASI standards and promote the "Alpine Responsibility Code".
  • Assist in training, reviewing, and coaching staff members.
  • Assist in disciplinary actions and escalate any issues to the Assistant Managers & Manager.

job requirements & Qualifications:

  • CSIA/CASI Level 1 or higher (or international equivalent). Dual certification is an asset.
  • Minimum one season of instructing experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy and willingness to learn new software.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Team player who can keep instructors and students focused.
  • Demonstrated responsibility in all aspects of instructing.
  • Excellent understanding of customer service.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Own transportation is an asset.
  • Daily Lessons - Evening Availability a must
  • Schools Programs - Predominantly Monday - Friday shifts vary between 9am and 9pm

Terms of Employment:

  • Hourly wage based on qualifications and experience.
  • Full-time position for the season, requiring 5 days per week, including weekends and some evenings.
  • Seasonal employment from mid-late November to mid-April.
  • Complimentary season pass and shuttle bus pass provided.
  • Additional hourly premiums for supervisory roles and specific certifications.
  • Full-Time Employee Bonus Scheme based on attendance and performance.
  • Hourly wage - dependent on qualifications and experience. Starting from:
    • Level 1 - $19.00
    • Level 2 - $21.25
    • Level 3 - $26.00
    • Level 4 - $33.50 

+ Additional hourly premium for the supervisory role.

Please note, this position is seasonal, running from mid-late November to mid-April. Weekends and afternoon/evening availability is required. Some overtime may be necessary during peak periods.
