Shred for the Cause "Locals Edition"

Shred for the Cause at Mt Seymour

Starts Monday, January 21, 2019

We pride ourselves at Mt Seymour as being the locals' mountain, so we invite you to join us Monday nights, 5pm to 10pm for the third season supporting a local, community-based charity called The Bloom Group. Last season we raised $30k. They have been providing some of the most progressive social services in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside for over 50 years, including low-barrier shelters for women and children.

For the 2019 season, ladies can ski and snowboard at Mt Seymour $15, with $7.50 from every lift ticket going to The Bloom Group. You are welcome to donate more to The Bloom Group if you wish. Men are welcome to come out and enjoy the evening as well. Lift tickets for men from 5pm - 10pm are $35. Men, you can also donate for the cause! Tickets will be sold out of the ticket booths at the Season Pass & Ticket Office. Ticket and rental packages will be sold in the Alpine Activity Centre.

Drinks and food specials are being served in the Rock Chute from 5pm onwards with trivia and games for prizes and giveaways at 8pm from our sponsors Rip Curl, Thirty Two, Dragon, Sandbox, Helly Hansen, Comor Sports and Pacific Boarder.

Shred Details:

5pm -10pm | Every Monday from Jan 21 - Mar 25

Women and girls pay $15 at any downhill ticketing location (Alpine Activity Centre or Season Pass & Ticket Office).

Why do women and girls get a discounted area pass?
Snowboarding and skiing have been traditionally male dominated sports and here at Mt Seymour we want to equal the odds. Only around 33% of skiers or snowboarders are female and we want to encourage as many women and girls as possible to ski and snowboard to grow the sports we love. We all know that if Mom shreds then the rest of the family will follow and since we are a family mountain we need women to stay engaged and participating in mountain sports so we can pass our passion for the mountains down to the next generation.

A family that shreds together is awesome together.

The Bloom GroupCommunity. Services. Together.

The Bloom Group Community Services Society has provided some of the most progressive social services in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside for over 50 years. We support the most vulnerable in our community through the provision of a range of housing, health and social services.

Women and Children Services | Women. Forward. Together.

Respect for who they are. Support for who they can be. For many women in crisis, their lives are complicated by the demands of motherhood or by mental health, addiction, abuse, and other challenges. Our shelters for women and children are designed to accommodate and welcome them as they are—without judgement or exclusion. For those facing mental health, addiction, abuse, and other challenges, Powell Place offers a welcome refuge and a starting point for their journey to safety and stability. For women with children, Springhouse provides a shelter from homelessness or violence, and ensures mothers and their children can stay together when they’re at their most vulnerable. In a safe, homelike environment, we the women serve with services that help them heal, grow stronger, and start the next chapter of their lives. In 2014 we housed and served 177 women. One in three moved on to permanent housing or treatment services, breaking the cycle of poverty and abuse.
