SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mt Seymour is seeking strong environmental role models to be Summer Eco-Adventure Program Instructors for our wilderness-based summer day camps. Mt Seymour’s Eco-Adventure camps provide mountain-based day camp programs for children aged 5-12. Our experiential camps engage kids in nature education, wilderness survival skills, and personal growth.

Responsibilities & Duties:
- Program development
- Program delivery
- Engaging youth in environmental sustainability
- Direct leadership
- Active and professional care of children and youth
THIS POSITION IS RIGHT FOR YOU IF:
- You can commit to 9 full weeks of programming Monday - Friday, July 4 - September 1
- You have experience working with children aged 5-15 in either a formal (classroom) or outdoor educational environment
- You exemplify such qualities as, social and environmental responsibility, safety awareness, flexibility, a sense of humor, and a passion for continuous learning and mentorship
- You can demonstrate group leadership skills in an outdoor/wilderness setting
- You have knowledge of wilderness skills, safety, and etiquette
- You are an amazing team player and have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- You are capable of mentoring and assisting volunteer leaders
- You have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- You are passionate about environmental stewardship and sharing this passion with youth
- You can hike over rough mountainous terrain for extended periods while carrying group and programming supplies
- You are willing to work on a mountain top in challenging weather and environmental conditions
WHAT WE REQUIRE FROM YOU:
- A strong interest in outdoor recreation or adventure tourism
- The aspiration to study biology, environmental studies, education, or related area of study, or equivalent (or in progress)
- Experience working in a youth camp environment
- Training or experience working with children/youth with various learning needs
- Reliable transportation to and from the mountain – car-pooling is available!
- Class 5 driver’s license (Class 4 would be an asset)
- Current first aid or wilderness first aid certificate (or in progress)
- Primitive survival skills and bushcraft knowledge an asset
- Must be available between, June 21 - September 3, in order to incorporate training
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Part-time hours from June 21 - June 30. Full-time (40 hours) for the duration of the camps
- Wage $19.50 per hour
- Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm
- Seasonal position, June 21 - September 3
- Complimentary winter season pass and shuttle bus pass
